Yanina and Ken, CSN’s Sarah Kustok Going Places

July 25, 2012 @ No Comments

Midweek musings: Congratulations to a pair of this site’s favorite females. Yanina Beccaria (former Chicago Blackhawks Ice Crew member) and Sarah Kustok (former DePaul basketball standout and a rising star at Comcast SportsNet Chicago) are the lovely ladies in question.

Ken Barrington and Yanina Beccaria are headed places.

* Yanina won this summer’s “Love in the Wild” on NBC Tuesday (July 24) with partner Ken Barrington. They were part of the fun at a viewing event at Market Bar that included the reality show’s host, Jenny McCarthy, and runners-up Benjamin Clark and Michelle Sacco. Yanina and Ken won the top prize of a trip around the world (and, yes, the couple will be doing so together).

* Sarah is moving on to a new job that was not disclosed in a statement Tuesday from Comcast SportsNet. It was merely a matter of time before she took her talents elsewhere. Having her take a high-profile position with a major network — cable or otherwise — would not be a surprise. Her last scheduled day at Comcast is Aug. 3. Media maven Robert Feder of TimeOutChicago.com appears to be first to report the news.

Sarah Kustok has been a delighful presence for in Chicago.

* Speaking of moving on, the Miami Marlins reportedly traded third baseman/shortstop Hanley Ramirez to the Los Angeles Dodgers. It happened while you were sleeping — unless, like some of us, you were up at 3 a.m. Chicago time. Something says Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen would prefer management not trade off prized pieces of his ballclub. Something also says the former White Sox manager might want to see if he could trade places, too.

* Speaking of the Dodgers, they still may be interested in Chicago Cubs right-hander Ryan Dempster. Of course, by the time some of us aris on Wednesday, he already may be gone. Anyone who criticizes Dempster for rejecting a trade to the Atlanta Braves — a right he earned by being a 10-year veteran in the major leagues and five with the Cubs — is off base. Or off the pitcher’s mound, as the case may be.

If this is Wednesday (which is most definitely is after returning from the “Love in the Wild” viewing party and starting to create type today’s effort later than usual), that means we are only a day away from Thursday’s weekly edition of “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris at noon on talkzone.com. If memory serves (which on occasion it actually does), the guests on the July 26 program will be Ruth Riley of the WNBA Chicago Sky and former big-league pitcher Tommy John. Ruth will discuss a variety of topics, including the Olympics to a fund-raising event to be held Friday at Rockit Bar & Grill in downtown Chicago from 6-8:30 p.m. Ruth also will be part of a Nothing But Nets event Aug. 12 at The Studio, 133 E. Cook, in Libertyville from 1-4 p.m.
