WNBA Draft vs. C2E2? Unreal

April 16, 2012 @ No Comments

It has been one of those days. Woke up early — because of a phone call that led to nothing. Couldn’t get back to sleep, so tried to do some work. Which, of course, caused sleep mode to kick in.

Not sure if Lady Loki and Daenerys Targaryen were part of the WNBA draft. They were part of C2E2.

Thankfully, the excitement of the draft was enough to brng about revitilization. Yes, there’s nothing quite like draft day, is there? Especially when it’s the WNBA draft that we’re talking about it.

Twitter was abuzz — OK, some of the folks involved were tweeting about it — that the WNBA draft had taken over ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Conn. Now some of you out there probably think it was take assault weapons to accomplish all that.

Not really. Being a broadcast partner simplifies the process. Which makes one — and possibly even more than one — wonder how ESPN would cover the WNBA draft if it didn’t televise WNBA games. Not that anyone is questioning anyone else’s journalistic integrity. Especially when all this isn’t journalism as we know it. Or knew it.

There is a delightful journalism proverb (or something like that) that states: “If you’re going to cover the circus, don’t sleep with the elephants.”

As if any of us out there — with the possible excep tion for a handful of folks (and you know who you are) — would contemplate sleeping with elephants.

Oh, wait; sleeping with elephants isn’t the issue? W.ell, hopefully you get the overarching concept about maintaining a certain distance in relationships, etc.

Maybe in another world, lines are better defined so there is no confusion about what is journalism and what is TV.

Speaking of other worlds (and even if we weren’t), here is — as promised — some video from the C2E2 2012 event (Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo) April 13-15 at McCormick Place. If things go according to plan (good luck with that), there will be more videos in the afternoons this week — as long as some of us find a way to obtain sufficient sleep to be awake enough to post:
