Without Rose, Bulls Rose to Occasion vs. Heat

January 5, 2013 @ No Comments

Gee, if the Chicago Bulls — playing without recuperating star guard Derrick Rose — can score a road victory against the Miami Heat 96-89 as they did Friday (Jan. 4), do you know what that means? Not much. Certainly not as far as any Bulls NBA title aspirations go. Unless, of course, you want to attach comparable significance to the Charlotte Bobcats ending an 18-game losing streak with a New Year’s eve victory over the Bulls. Just trying to temper any unwarranted enthusiasm before things get out of control.

There’s always room for a little leftover Luvabulls photo.

* Speaking of temper, Bulls center Joakim Noah was called for a flagrant foul against Miami’s LeBron James. Even though Noah didn’t appear to have malicious intent, he still merited the foul. Imagine if an opposing player had done the same thing to a Bulls player and how outraged Bulls fans would be if the offender avoided a flagrant call.

* The Bulls reportedly are set to sign Daequan Cook, the 2009 all-star three-point champion. It’s unlikely the Houston Rockets, who waived Cook, will miss his 3.4 points in 10.3 minutes per game.

* Speaking of signings, the Chicago Cubs reportedly are going to sign Dontrelle Willis to a minor-league contract. Which means perfect sense. Teams always can use left-handed pitching. Well, it makes sense if it’s 2003 or so. Willis last appeared in the major leagues in 2011 with Cincinnati and went 1-5 with a 5.00 earned-run average for the Reds. Maybe the Cubs know something no other team does. Then again …

* Recently fired Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith interviewed with the Buffalo Bills on Friday. He “expressed a genuine interest in the Buffalo coaching vacancy and the feeling of the Bills coaching search committee was mutual,” Buffalobills.com reported. Something says “genuine interest” isn’t what it used to be. After all, the Bills could use a former Bears coach on their staff now that defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt was dismissed after the season. Not to mention there’s the legacy of Dick Jauron, whose 24-33 record in four seasons with the Bills was even less impressive than his 35-45 record in five seasons with the Bills.

Speaking of baseball (well, we were a few paragraphs ago), here is something that anyone looking forward to spring training needs. All you have to do is click here. You can thank the fine folks at jaythejoke.com for this.

Speaking of jaythejoke.com, you still can download the Jay the Joke Holiday Cookbook. The cookbook is suitable for any holiday, even if the cover does have something of a seasonal theme. The brainchild of jaythejoke.com’s Bill McCormick, the cookbook contains an interesting of food and drink recipes. And the best thing about the cookbook (well, other than the recipes and the cover — not necessarily in that order of interest to some of us), it is free. As in no cost. And it’s worth every dollar you’re not paying for it.

Of course, some skeptics in the audience will think the continued mentions for the cookbook have something to do with justifying using the image of the cover. And your point is what exactly???? One of the joys of running this site is being able to run pretty much what I want to.
