White Sox Dunn Has Fun With 2-HR, 5-RBI Game

April 21, 2012 @ No Comments

Saturday smorgasbord: Home runs? Adam Dunn hit one. Then he hit another. Against the Seattle Mariners on Friday (April 20) for the visiting Chicago White Sox. Two home runs in one game? It seemed like he had trouble hitting that many in one month last season. Maybe, just maybe, the Sox won’t be as bad as some people are predicting. General manager Ken Williams predicted Dunn would be better than last season. As if that’s a tough call. Dunn batted .159 in 2011 with 11 homers. Dunn doubled and struck out in his two other-at bats vs. the Mariners. The number of pitches he saw: 9. Meaning he saw three pitches other than the ones involving his hits and strikeout. So much for patience being a key to success.

Poison Ivy made her outfit from scratch -- or itch, as the case may be,

* If it’s any consolation to Chicago Blackhawks fans (and the guess here is that it is not), the Hawks are still in the NHL playoffs, while their rival Detroit Red Wings were eliminated Friday night. OK, so the Hawks could be gone after Saturday’s road game against the Phoenix Coyotes. Minor details.

* Speaking of the Hawks, they say there is no timetable for the return of Marian Hossa, who was carried off the ice on a stretcher after a Game 4 cheap shot by Raffi Torres. Common sense would seem to be that Hossa, who did not travel to Phoenix for Game 5 Saturday, should be good to go — for the start of next season.

* Watching the Chicago Cubs play this season, one (OK, probably many more than one) has the feeling that the biggest differences between the team and its Class AAA farm club are the capacity of the ballpark, price of concessions and player salaries.

* Not to say the Cubs (3-11) are struggling on offense, but they have produced five home runs and 42 runs batted in. The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Matt Kemp has eight home runs. As far as RBI, Kemp (20) and teammate Andre Ethier (19) have 39.

* For those who care about women’s roller derby (and even if you don’t), the Windy City Rollers will be in action April 21 at the UIC Pavilion. The first 100 people in the door will receive a Manic Attackers bandana. TIckets are available at Ticketmaster (VIP $35, general admission $20). Enter the promo code WRECK12 for $5 off.
