Triple-double for Bulls’ Noah; Twins for MJ

February 12, 2014 @ No Comments

Midweek musings: Chicago Bulls center Joakim Noah posted a triple-double (19 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists) in a 100-85 victory Tuesday against the visiting Atlanta Hawks. It was the fourth triple-double of his career. If he wants to make things interesting, he should add a three-pointer to the list. Or at least a three-point attempt. To his credit, Noah did make two free throws that accounted for the Bulls’ final two points and allowed fans at the United Center to win a free Big Mac.

Olympic curling, anyone? Here is Russia’s Alexandra Saitova.

* The only Bulls with more triple-doubles are Michael Jordan (28 times), Scottie Pippen (15) and Tom Boerwinkle (5). Mickey Johnson also had four triple-doubles. Noah was seven blocks away from posting a quaruple-double. Also impressive about his 41-minute performance vs. the Hawks: one turnover.

* Speaking of numerical accomplishments, MJ has become the father of twins after his 35-year-old wife Yvette gave birth to daughters Victoria and Ysabel on Sunday in West Palm Beach, Fla. “Yvette Jordan and the babies are doing well and the family is overjoyed at their arrival,” Estee Portnoy, spokeswoman for the former Bulls star, told the Associated Press. His Airness turns 51 on Feb. 17.

* Former Chicago White Sox closer Bobby Jenks will be the focus of Comcast SportsNet’s “Inside Look” monthly interview show. Hosted by Chuck Garfien, the program debuts Saturday at 8 p.m. Central time. Comcast SportsNet’s web site, CSNChicago.com, will have additional material. The show is scheduled to be replayed Feb. 18 at 12:30 p.m., Feb. 20 at 9:30 p.m., Feb. 22 at 5 p.m., Feb. 24 at 4:30 p.m., Feb. 25 at 9 p.m. and Feb. 28 at 11:30 p.m.

* Speaking of interview shows, the weekly edition of “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris on Talkzone.com at noon Central on Thursday will feature two 2014 inductees to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Defensive end Claude Humphrey and linebacker Derrick Brooks are the guests. The program will become available later in the day Thursday at the Talkzone.com site.

* Not a whole lot of events at the Winter Olympics interest me. That said, I have to admit to keep watching women’s curling in anticipation that the competitors at some point would take a break for some serious alcohol consumption and a fight will break out. By the time I had stopped watching Tuesday, that had not occurred. I will continue to hope that as the competition reaches the medal round, it will.
