Super Bowl Partying Worthy of TV Time

One of the great spectacles of sport is the Super Bowl. Even more entertaining can be the night before the Super Bowl with parties attracting the rich and famous and those who have enough room on their credit cards to hang with (or at least in some proximity) them.

So it would seem only natural that there would be coverage of such fun and festivities. You can go to various locations on the Internet and find photos and videos and even the occasional written report on such affairs. Apparently where you can’t go — unless you want to view the “NFL Honors” awards show — is the NFL Network.

For the record, your humble correspondent never has been and never will be in charge of a television network. That said, the partying that occurs during Super Bowl weekend would seem a natural for TV. And the NFL Network would seem the logical choice to provide the programming.

Why the NFL Network does not view this opportunity as football’s answer to New Year’s Eve is beyond my comprehension (then again, so are a bunch of many other things). A handful of events to cover with some interviews and musical performances thrown in for good measure seems a reasonable way to put together a one-hour show. No?

Maybe next year? Maybe not. The NFL likes to have complete control of any message that involves the league, and party-goers might be too risky for the league to consider — regardless of how much fun it theoretically and actually might be.

Speaking of parties, apparently the Playboy Party was not up to what Darren Rovell thinks it should have been. The CNBC television personality whose specialty is sports criticized the quality of Playboy pulchritude. Playmate Jaime Edmondson, long a favorite around here, responded. Oh, well.

Maybe someone will show the NFL how it can create another revenue stream with some party time. Until then, we’ll have to go to YouTube video to capture some of the Indianapolis experience from Super Bowl XLVI (and we may either update this or create a new post when video becomes available):
