Sky High? Not White Sox After Losing 18-9

September 5, 2012 @ No Comments

Midweek musings: This sure doesn’t seem like Wednesday, but if yesterday was Tuesday (which it was, provided that you are reading this today, Sept. 5) and tomorrow is Thursday, then chances are overwhelmingly likely that today is indeed Wedneday.

Playboy Playmate Alana Campos is to be on the Sept. 6 "Sports & Torts" show.

* The highlight of my day just might have been becoming the 11,112th Twitter follower of @TichaPenicheiro (that would be Chicago Sky guard Ticha Penicheiro. The lowlight of my day just might have been ruining the numerical symmetry for the number of her followers.

* Speaking of the Sky, coach Pokey Chatman and a few Sky players attended the White Sox-Minnestoa Twins game Tuesday (Sept. 4) with Ruth Riley throwing out the first pitch. The Sox might have been better off if they had left her in rather than have Jose Quintana on the mound. He lasted 1.2 innings, true. But Ruth didn’t allow seven runs.

* Apparently the lack of a crowd (only 15,698 in attendance) cost the Sox big-time. That has to be the main reason for a seven-run second and a 10-run fifth inning for the Twins in overcoming a 3-0 deficit and posting an 18-9 victory. Which sounds a little like what the Bears-Indianapolis Colts outcome could be Sunday (Sept. 9) in their NFL season opener.

* Not pretending to be a savvy political observer, I think it’s safe to say David Axelrod had a better night than Sox reliever Dylan Axelrod did. Unless the Democratic political strategist somehow was allowing the political equivalent of giving up 2 runs in 2 2/3 innings and had his earned-run average rise to 5.03.

* The Chicago Cubs are taking a pass on giving Adam Greenberg an at-bat. He is the player who was hit in the head by the only big-league pitch he saw (when he was with the Cubs). Of course, to give him an at-bat or two could embarrass the team if he proved to be merely mediocre. There appears to be no place for that in Theo Epstein’s rebulding plan. Apparently the plan is to lose about 100 games this season to make anything after seem like an improvement.

* Notre Dame has suspended radio football analyst Allen Pinkett two more games. All because he said a team needs to have “a few bad citizensa” to be successful. Maybe the Irish can find a criminal or two to take his place temporarily to make broadcasts better.

April Rose generally is on the fast track — and always welcome around here:

As promised, more video of the Chicago Luvabulls from their final auditions Aug. 29 for the 2012-13 dance team (and, yes, we still should have sufficient additional video for a couple more days of entertainment):

We have pretty much established that today is Wednesday (again assuming you are reading this on Sept. 5, the initial date these words of wisdom are being made available here in cyberspace). That means tomorrow will be Thursday, unless perhaps you live in a galaxy that doesn’t work that way. Thursdays mean it is time once again for “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris on talkzone.com at noon Chicago time. If things go as planned — and occasionally they do — for the highly acclaimed interview program (well, it is treated that way in the Spada and Harris households), September Playboy Playmate Alana Campos will be on the program. Sadly, she will not be in the studio. Oh, well. Maybe next time.

OK, so Labor Day may signal the unofficial end of summer. That will not keep the video-research department at elliottharris.com from its ever-vigilant quest for footage featuring females in bikinis (something says visitors to this site prefer that to guys in bikinis; thinking that might exist elsewhere on cyberspace). And so, without further ado, here is some video for most of you:
