Sky Falls in Home Opener to Indiana

May 26, 2012 @ No Comments

Well, there goes the perfect season. The Chicago Sky lost its home opener to the Indiana Fever 83-72 Friday (May 25) at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill. The Sky outrebounded Indiana 37-25. Impressive. The Sky had 22 turnovers to the Fever’s 15. Less impressive. The Sky definitely left itself some room for improvement and coach Pokey Chatman some things to work on with her team.

Some might want to argue that Indiana Fever guard Katie Douglas should be on the Maxim Hot 100 list. Hey, if they can put Stephen Colbert on the list ...

Sylvia Fowles had a team-high 21 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Sky (1-1). Fowles also had two early fouls that limited her playing time to 11:30 in the first half. Newcomer Swin Cash had six points — all in the first quarter — for the Sky. Tamika Catchings had a game-high 22 points and Katie Douglas 21 for the Fever (2-0). Catchings also had a game-high five assists. Epiphanny Prince added 17 points and Shay Murphy 10 for Chicago. Reserve center Jessica Davenport had 12 points for Indiana, which led 21-18 after one quarter, 37-35 at halftime and 58-54 after three.

The Sky’s next game is May 30 at San Antonio and the next home game June 1 against Washington (the Sky beat the Mystics in the season opener).

Still on the subject of the Sky, it will hold commemorate the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts of the USA and the 40th anniversary of Title IX at its June 8 game against Tulsa. Girl Scouts ages 5–17 will be able to participate in “Girls Run This Game” as they assist in the game operations.

A halftime celebration honoring the two anniversaries is open to Girl Scouts past and present and female athletes past and present.

“With the 40th Anniversary of Title IX and the 100th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts, we are both honored and committed to continue to provide opportunities for Girl Scouts to both get an inside look at potential careers in the sports world and see up close one of the more significant outcomes of the ruling 40 years ago,” Sky president/CEO Adam Fox said.

A $20 Girl Scout ticket package is available that includes a ticket to the game, food voucher and commemorative Sky visor and patch for girls. More information about the Girl Scout Alumnae Association and about buying tickets to the June 8 game is available by clicking here.

OK, let’s go to some postgame video:

In that April Rose, one of our favorite females of all time, is a major presence in anything to do with Maxim, the least the editorial staff at elliottharris.com can do is run some video of her from Maxim’s Hot 100 party. It’s merely coincidental that Bar Refaeli — who is No. 1 on the 2012 list — also is featured:
