Rush to Judgment: Picking Dancers, NFL Games

October 31, 2011 @ No Comments

No way to tap-dance around it, the holiday rush is coming soon. Or the post-holiday Rush — as far as auditions for the 2012 Adrenaline Rush Dance Team is concerned. Fancy footwork not optional.

Gloria Esposito used to be a Chicago Luvabull, too.

The squad that supports the Chicago Rush of the Arena Football League is to begin its process on Nov. 27. That’s the Sunday after Thanksgiving for those not near a calendar. The Adrenaline Rush, a crowd favorite at games in the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, will consist of 16 talented females.

“We are extremely eager to begin our search for the 2012 Adrenaline Rush dancers,” Dance Coordinator Gloria Esposito said. “It is always exciting to see these women striving to achieve their dreams. There were so many talented women who auditioned last year, we are anxious to see what this year brings.”

Gloria does more than talk a good game — or dance team. She has been a member of the Adrenaline Rush, so she is familiar with the hard work that goes into being a successful part of the game experience.

Dancers who want to try out must be 18 before Jan. 1, 2012. The auditions feature three rounds. The first is Nov. 27 at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Fee to audition is $50. Applications are available at Arenarush.com. Applications, audition fee, signed waiver and release plus a recent photo are due by Nov. 25.

The top 30-40 dancers will move on to a mandatory Mini Camp on Dec. 6 and Dec. 8 from 7-10 p.m. The final round will be open to the public and held on Dec. 10 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at a t site to be announced.

There also will be audition prep classes on Nov. 15 and 17 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Stephens Convention Center. The class will review technique, provide the opportunity to learn a new routine and speak with the dance team’s personal trainer. Each class costs $20. Dancers attending both prep classes will receive a $10 discount off the audition fee. Prep-class applications are due Nov. 14 and are available at Arenarush.com.

This item definitely goes into the folder for Pulitzer Prize for Public Service (or the cyberspace equivalent). OK, maybe not. Coverage of the audtions? Definitely.

Speaking of football (or something approximating it), former Chicago Bears linebacker Otis Wilson will make an appearance at Rivers Casino in Des Plaines on Oct. 31 for Monday Night Football from 7-9 p.m. He will sign autographs and greet fans in The Cube, which features a 186-inch big screen and 27 other televisions.

Maybe someone can convince Wilson to have at least one of the TVs tuned into “Two and A Half Men.”

As stated Sunday, the editorial staff at elliottharris.com said there was going to be a problem posting Jaime Edmondson’s picks for the late games and the night game. Which is about the only prediction that it was willing to take credit for. The rest — and best — of the prediction portion belongs for the Playboy Playmate.

For those of you scoring at home (or elsewhere) and even for those of you not scoring anywhere, here are Jaime’s picks:

Detroit over Denver, Cincinnati over Seattle, Buffalo over Washington, San Francisco over Cleveland, Pittsburgh over New England and Dallas over Philadelphia. Meaning she correctly chose every game except for the Eagles routing the Cowboys. Meaning she was 5-1 for those games. Impressive figures.

Speaking of impressive figures, here is Jaime in the visual version of her Sunday selections:
