Rose Slams Knicks, Lack of Calls

March 13, 2012 @ No Comments

Linsanity met a mad man Monday night. The mad man prevailed over Jeremy Lin and the New York Knicks. The mad man — OK, maybe angry would be a better way to describe Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose, the reigning NBA MVP — had 32 points in a 104-99 victory at the United Center. Included was a fourth-quarter dunk that delighted the crowd and spoke to his frustration about a lack of fouls called against him.

Because we don't have a photo of Bulls reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose dunking, this photo of Luvabulls lovely Kiley will have to suffice.

Rose’s dunk, which gave the Bulls a 91-84 lead with 6:01 left, accounted for two of his 10 fourth-quarter points. He played the entire 12 minutes of the fourth and logged 42:43 for the game. He also lodged a protest of sorts for non-calls on some of his drives to the basket.

“I’ve gotta be the only superstar in the league that’s going through what I’m going through right now,” Rose said in the Bulls’ locker room after the game. “But I can’t say too much about it.”

Even a guy earning the money he does hates to part with fine money for criticizing officials.

“I’m going to continue to play the way I know how to play,” he said. “I came into this league as a driver. Nothing has changed. I continue to play hard and just continue to win. That’s the way I play.”

The way Lin played wasn’t bad — 15 points, eight assists and only three turnovers.

“He’s good,” Rose said of Lin. “He didn’t turn the ball over that much. He’s playing with a lot of confidence. His teammates believe in him. You can go so far in this league when you have your teammates behind you.”

Even so, the Knicks lost their sixth in a row.

“We played well for long stretches, but the second-chance points got us,” Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said. The Bulls outrebounded New York 56-38 and scored 24 second-chance points to the Knicks’ six.

“I thought our rebounding was outstanding,” Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said. Taj [Gibson, 13 rebounds] was great.”

Not so great was the reception Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel received when his face flashed on the scoreboard video. Some in the crowd booed.

As far as hometown heroes go, it appears the fans go with the guy who wears No. 1 for the Bulls. That’s one call Rose should agree with.

To see Rose’s emphatic dunk, we are happy to offer a video featuring the Luvabulls with replays of Rose’s slam on the video scoreboard (and there are several other videos, too):
