Peavy in Postseason Is What White Sox Fans Wanted

October 9, 2013 @ No Comments

Midweek musings: Right-hander Jake Peavy pitching in the American League Championship Series? Yep, that’s what Chicago White Sox fans envisioned for 2013, although not for the Boston Red Sox.

Look for Playboy Playmate Carly Lauren on “Sports & Torts” (and in the video below):.

Outfielder David DeJesus driving in a run to break up a scoreless game in the sixth inning of the American League Division Series. Yep, that’s what Chicago Cubs fans envisioned for 2013. OK, maybe not even in their wildest dreams. And certainly not for the Tampa Bay Rays.

* And so, the Sox — of the Red variety — are in the ALCS after a 3-1 victory Tuesday on the road to take the ALDS 3-1. Oh, and if it comes as any consolation to Cubs fans (and the guess here is that it does not for the overwhelming majority), former Cubs right-hander Ryan Dempster also is on Boston’s postseason roster.

* You don’t need six degrees of separation for White Sox and Cubs fans to have a rooting interest in postseason baseball; one or two generally will do. And, of course, the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals are still in their respective division series, so Cubs and Sox fans have at least one team to root against.

* Speaking of the Cubs, while they wait for Joe Girardi to make a decision about the New York Yankees’ offer to remain as manager or possibily entertain an offer from the Cubs after his current contract ends Oct. 31, the Cubs reportedly have interviewed Manny Acta for their managerial vacancy. The former Cleveland Indians and Washington National manager has a 372-518 record. Meaning he could be the perfect fit for the Cubs.

* Still speaking of Girardi, he could remain with the Yankees and know othe Cubs likely still would have interest in him sometime down the road. And it might be wise for Girardi to wait and have someone else guide the team in its revival. Hey, he might replace Manny the manager. After all, that wouldn’t be a tough Acta to follow, would it?

If this is Wednesday (which certainly seems likely in that yesterday was Tuesday — provided that you are reading this on Oct. 9, 2013, or a subsequent Tuesday), then it is nearing time for another edition of “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris on Talkzone.com at noon Thursday (Central time). If things go according to plan (which they actually do on occasion), Playboy Playmate Carly Lauren (Miss October) will be on the highly acclaimed interview show (well, it is held in such high regard in the Spada and Harris households, as well as reportedly elsewhere). All of which seems as good a reason as any to run some video of Carly.

But first, we interrupt this bit of self-promotion for a bit more of self-promotion:

* From our department of shameless self-promotion (not to be confused with our department of regular self-promotion or our department of shameful self-promotion), may we offer this: “Sports & Torts” is urging you and everyone else to vote at podcast.com for the Peoples Choice, Best Produced, Best Video Podcast and Best Sports Podcast. Go to podcastawards.com and type in our show name and URL. Here is the URL: http://www.talkzone.com/shows/155/1660.html.

OK, enough of that. Time for some Playboy video:
