Maria Menounos a Wrestlemania 28 Winner

April 2, 2012 @ No Comments

One of the great sporting spectacles was held Sunday (April 1). And, no, not the semifinals of the women’s NCAA basketball tournament — no offense to Baylor, which defeated Stanford, or to Notre Dame, which ousted Connecticut. No offense intended to anyone who enjoys women’s basketball.

Summer Rae helps brighten up any day.

But what we were referring to was Wrestlemania 28 (or XXVIII, for those who prefer Roman numerals), which was held in Miami. Among those attending the event was Summer Rae of Florida Championship Wrestling. She bears a striking resemblance to former Chicago Bliss Lingerie Football League player Danielle Moinet.

Anyway, here are the results from Wrestlemania 28:

* Dwayne Johnson — otherwise known as The Rock — pinned John Cena.

* Kelly Kelly and “Extra” television personality Maria Menounos beat Eve Torres and Divas champion Beth Phoenix.

* C.M. Punk defeated Chris Jericho to retain his WWE title.

* Team Johnny beat Team Teddy.

* The Undertaker defeated Triple H.

* Big Show captured the Intercontinental title by beating Cody Rhodes.

* Kane defeated Randy Orton.

* Sheamus needed only 18 seconds to beat Daniel Bryan and become World Heavyweight Championship.

Let the record show The Rock has been doing substantially more acting than wrestling in recent years, although he was one of the dynamic personalities in WWE. Maria, on the other hand (or feet, as the case may be), is not a wrestler by trade. She is an actress, author and television personality who was making her second WWE appearance (both victories). Maria also is participating on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” so she has been extremely active. And she should be a little tired for Monday night’s dance competition.

If all this seems a bit superfluous, think of it as a reasonable rationalization for running some video of her. Not that there need be rationalizing. That’s the great thing about running your own Internet site.

Sadly, we do not have video from Sunday’s pay-per-view event, so the best we can do is offer a little action of the four females last week on “Extra” where Maria works at her day job. Or one of them:

A photo with some literary value (such as this one featuring three lovely lasses) or one of some guy who will be talking baseball -- Cubs, White Sox and otherwise -- Tuesday at the Arlington Heights Library? Tough call. Not.

From this site’s shameless self-promotion department comes news that there will be an event of note Tuesday at the Arlington Heights Library as part of an ongoing sports-themed series. Participating will be veteran scribe Jim O’Donnell, whose work appears in the Chicago Tribune and who will lead the discussion on “Batter Up for Baseball Season.” Also taking part will be Comcast SportsNet Cubs analyst and former Cubs oufielder Todd Hollandsworth and Elliott Harris (gee, that name sounds familiar from some place), author of Hoodoo: Unraveling the 100-Year Mystery of the Chicago Cubs (well, it was 100 years in 2008 when the book came out). The terrific trio will chat about what to expect from the Cubs and White Sox — as well as other big-league teams –this season. There might even be a giveaway or two (with at least one involving a pair of Cubs tickets). The event is scheduled to run from 7-8:30 p.m. Extra innings are not anticipated.

Perhaps the best part of all this is being able to run a photo of an attractive female holding up the book. Well, you had to know there was a reason — other than pure ego — for running a mention of the library event. Something says this item will find its way into Monday’s and Tuesday’s postings — with a different photo likely each day.
