Illusion or Reality? Bulls, Northwestern Big Winners

March 14, 2014 @ No Comments

Being under the weather is no fun. No surprise there. Being able to sleep away most of the day isn’t a whole lot of fun either. But it can be an effective way to deal with various illnesses. And so it was Thursday.

For a moment I thought I was seeing double until I realized these are wrestling's Bella Twins.

For a moment I thought I was seeing double until I realized these are wrestling’s Bella Twins, Brie and Nikki who star in ‘Total Divas’ on E! cable channel.

How bad was it? Well, the medication the doctor’s office had provided Wednesday hadn’t kicked in. Or so it seemed. My condition was so serious that I passed up watching spring-training baseball on television. Now that’s borderline critical condition.

And so I slept. And slept. Had a little apple juice. And slept some more. And more.

Of course, that much time in bed — all by oneself — can leave some of us a bit disoriented. And so it was was with me. When I awoke, I turned on the television in time for the start of the Chicago Bulls-Houston Rockets game. Except the game was well into the second quarter. OK, so the rational part of my mind (extremely small to begin with) figured the game must have begun earlier than I had thought. All well and good.

The game was close at halftime as I dozed off again.

When I awoke, Bulls forward Mike Dunleavy was making just about any three-point shot he took. His teammates had similar success as the Bulls went up by more than 30 points. And I couldn’t find Jimmy Butler in the game — a sure sign this was not reality. More amazing, I thought I saw rookie Erik Murphy in the game and take and make a field goal. I knew I should be questioning things when I thought I saw Tornike Shengelia on the court. Clearly, I was in some sort of delusional state. Except that I wasn’t.

The Bulls actually prevailed 111-87. Dunleavy had 18 of his 21 points in the third quarter. He wad 4-of-6 on three-points. Kirk Hinrich (19 points) was 5-of-6 on three-pointers. D.J. Augustin (13 points) was 3-of-7 on three-pointers.

OK, so maybe my head was clearer than I had thought. With that all cleared up, I switched over to another cable TV channel. And I relapsed. No other explanation. I could have sworn I saw Northwestern University defeat Iowa 67-62 in the Big Ten Conference tournament and Wildcats coach Chris Collins was shaking hands with folks in the postgame processional.

Yeah, I better get some more rest.
