Holiday More Than Fair: NBA, Danielle Moinet

November 27, 2011 @ No Comments

The NBA will be back in time for Christmas (as in “joy to the world”) Or Chanukah (as in “oy to the world”). Take your pick. This much is clear after the league announced early Saturday its lockout with the players was over (with certain details still to be worked out) and the season would open on Dec. 25 with a tripleheader.

Say hello to Laker Girl Ancell. Look for her Dec. 25.

Among the games scheduled are the Chicago Bulls at the Los Angeles Lakers. Which means the Laker Girls should make an appearance or two during the NBC telecast.

Now, some folks in the audience might not quite understand all the nuances — subtle and otherwise — to the labor pains that occurred and wiped 16 games off each team’s schedule for the 2011-12 season. You are not alone. All that most of us care about is the NBA has a 10-year deal, so you have time to figure it all out before the next time there is a lockout of NBA players.

The tripleheader also features Boston at New York and Miami at Dallas.

The regular season is to end a week later than originally scheduled with the postseason also to run later.

There is the possibility of a Game 7 of the NBA Finals on June 28. You would have thought for the purpose of holiday symmetry, the NBA at least could have scheduled it for July 4.

So what took so long to end the 149-day lockout?

Well, maybe the owners were waiting for the Comcast SportsNet Chicago series on the Luvabulls to be over before ending it.

Or maybe it was part of a Phil Jackson/Michael Jordan/Bulls conspiracy. With a 66-game schedule, the Bulls’ record of 72 victories in a season seems safe. Still waiting for the NBA to run numbers through its computers to verify.

Or maybe it merely took NBA owners and players this long to figure Christmas falls on Dec. 25 this year?

All the editorial staff at elliottharris.com knows (and granted it’s not much) is the Matadors will round into shape for the team’s home. As long as the shape is round.

Speaking of shapes, something says when training camps open up Dec. 9, the Bulls won’t be in nearly the shape that the Luvabulls are. Then again, you would expect otherwise?

The 2011-12 Laker Girls should enjoy some camera time against the Bulls on Dec. 25.

Time for some NBA dance team video. Today will feature the Laker Girls. That way we can devote more time and space another day to the Luvabulls.

It wouldn’t be Sunday without the weekly football forecast from Danielle Moinet, the former Lingerie Football League all-fantasy defensive back from the Chicago Bliss.

As always, you can find Danielle’s complete picks (and lots of other good stuff, too) at turdfergusonblog.com.

Her Week 12 selections: Houston over Jacksonville, St. Louis over Arizona, Tampa Bay over Tennessee, Pittsburgh over Kansas City and New Orleans over the New York Giants.

Of the Chiefs (the Bears’ opponent next week at Soldier Field in Chicago), Danielle wonders: “How bad is Tyler Palko?” The guess here is so bad that former Bears quarterback Kyle Orton — picked up last week after being waived by Denver where Tim Tebow passes for a QB (although he doesn’t pass much like an NFL QB) — will be the starter when K.C. comes to Chicago.
