Hawks Falter; Bulls Awaiting Streaking Heat

March 26, 2013 @ No Comments

Random thoughts while waiting for some team to offer former Chicago Bears face of the franchise Brian Urlacher a contract — whether the free-agent linebacker might find the terms insulting or otherwise:

Loop Rock Girl Shannon appears ready to play ball.

* With its victory Monday (March 25) over the Orlando Magic, the Miami Heat has won 27 consecutive contests. Next up for LeBron James & Co. are the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday at the United Center. The Bulls’ best hope for ending the Heat’s hopes for matching the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers’ NBA record of 33 in a row? No, not the return of Derrick Rose to the Bulls’ lineup. The best hope is the Heat is looking ahead to its game against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday. Or contemplating where the team might party in New Orleans after beating the Hornets on Friday.

* Speaking of streaks, with their 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, the Blackhawks have lost two games in a row in regulation for the first time this season. No need to panic. Not until the postseason. If that’s any consolation to those contemplating jumping off the Hawks bandwagon.

* Speaking of the Hawks and the Bull and Derrick Rose, Hawks star Patrick Kane said the Bulls guard recuperating from anterior-cruciate ligament surgery should sit out the rest of the season. “I think he’s so young in his career, to mess with an injury like that at this point, I’m sure they feel like they can win a championship, but with him and that injury and the way he plays, personally, I’d just shut him down for the year and get him ready for next season,” Kane said. “But I’m sure that’s not what the fans want to hear or anyone covering the Bulls. That’s just my personal opinion as an athlete.” Patrick Kane, voice of maturity and career counseling. Yeah, I guess we all saw that coming, didn’t we? OK, maybe not.

* Speaking of healthy athletes, White Sox outfielder Alex Rios has been having some back troubles that could keep him out of the Opening Day starting lineup. Meaning “back-back-back!” could refer to his physical condition rather than any baseballs he might hit out of the ballpark.

* Speaking of the White Sox, they start the season with 16 home games among their 27 contests in April. The opener against Kansas City is April 1 at U.S. Cellular Field. To celebrate the start of the season, O’Donovan’s Pub and Restaurant (2100 W. Irving Park Rd.) is partnering with Reggie’s Rock Club (2105 S. State St.). For $40, O’Donovan’s patrons will be able to take a shuttle bus at noon to go to Reggie’s for an all-you-can-eat tailgate buffet before and after the game. The price include a game ticket and the bus to and from Reggie’s. Reservations and payment are required and may be made by calling O’Donovan’s (773-478-2100) or Reggie’s (312-949-0120).

OK, here is where we go for video of the non-gratuitous variety (because very little qualifies around here as gratuitous):
