Grammys Over Pro Bowl Any Day (or Night)

January 27, 2014 @ No Comments

Monday meanderings: Some days are good for contemplation. Some days are good for staying in bed for the most part. Some days are both. Sunday worked for me. OK, so I actually did get dressed and did shovel some snow (which merely provided a reasonably clean surface on the driveway and sidewalk for more fresh snow later. Sunday was the Pro Bowl. I know that because someone on Twitter lamented the fact that the NFL’s “all-star” game and the Grammys apparently were on at the same time. I will take her word for that because — like millions of others — I did not watch the Pro Bowl and did tune in the Grammys. Something says I didn’t miss much by bypassing the action from the game in Hawaii. Well, except perhaps for the cheerleaders.

Chrissy Teigen might want to dress more warmly if she’s going to the Super Bowl.

* With the Chicago White Sox annual fan convention ending Sunday, Sox fans can count the days till pitchers and catchers report to spring training. For those of us who struggle with mathematics, we can comfort ourselves by remembering that training camp opens in less than a month. Not that the snow in Chicago or many other locales will have stopped by then (although we all can dream that it will), but there will be warmth — OK, double-digit temperatures at the very least — somewhere where baseball players are working on fundamentals, etc.

* Speaking of SoxFest, slugger Jim Thome was there Sunday. He is going to have a statue of himself outside the stadium in Cleveland. A longtime Indians standout, Thome was a slugger whose footspeed on the basepaths had something of a statue-like quality about it.

* Speaking of the Grammys, John Legend was there and performed. He is married to model Chrissy Teigen, who has appeared in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. Which is about as much of a sports connection as there appeared to be at the music awards show. Well, other than singer Bruno Mars, who will be appearing during the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVIII Feb. 2 in New Jersey. Well, provided that the game is Feb. 2. And provided that the halftime show doesn’t get snowed out.

* Speaking of the Super Bowl and bad weather, one has to wonder whether whoever is responsible for the NFL’s title game being played in an open-air stadium in the Northeast ought to be fired. Or at least undergo some sort of psychological testing and/or counseling.

* Oh, there was another sports connection with the Grammys. There was a Pepsi commercial (Pepsi being the halftime sponsor for the Super Bowl) that included former Bears coach Mike Ditka, among others. Not exactly the highlight of the evening, but it did beat watching a Pro Bowl game.
