Days Grow Short When You Reach September

September 1, 2012 @ No Comments

Weekend watch: With losses Saturday (Sept. 1) and Sunday, the Chicago Cubs will be assured of a losing season. That’s what happens when you take a 51-80 record into September. The Cubs can’t even first in the category of being certain of a sub-.500 record thanks to Houston (40-92), which is well on its way to the 100 level.

Adult actress Madison Fox was a good sport at Exxxotica Chicago 2012.

* With losses Saturday and Sunday, the Chicago White Sox will be assured of having a reason for concern (something says the team’s fans already have reached that point). That’s what happens when you play the Detroit Tigers, who are only two games back of the Sox in the American League Central after a 7-4 victory in Motown on Friday.

* Speaking of division leaders, the West-leading Texas Rangers won 5-3 at Cleveland, as former Cubs right-hander Ryan Dempster (4-1) pitched two-hit ball over six innings. He lowered his earned-run average to 4.58 in the American League after going 5-5 with a 2.25 ERA with the Cubs. Dempster has enjoyed significantly better run support with the Rangers, who have scored 31 rubs in his 37 1/3 inning. Whatever portion of a share the Rangers give him, it will be more than anything he would have received with the Cubs.

* Former White Sox top prospect Gio Gonzalez improved to 17-7 as the Washington Nationals defeated the visiting St. Louis Cardinals 10-0. His first career shutout allowed him to gain a tie for most big-league victories this season. Gonzalez was part of the trade that brought Nick Swisher to the Sox. Well, it presumably seemed like a good idea at the time. Something says Gonzeles will have at least 20 victories by the end of September.

* Speaking of September, one of the favorite tunes around here that has that name of the month in the title is “September Song.” Nothing like a little melancholy to brighten up the day/night/whenever. Here is a version from Willie Nelson:

* Michigan-Alabama is the way to start off the college football season, even if the game is being played in Arlington, Texas. Hawaii at top-rated USC and Northern Iowa at Wisconsin are not the way to start off the season.

* Speaking of Madison (and even if we weren’t), here is Madison Fox, an adult actress at this summer’s Exxxotica Chicago 2012 at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill. Little did some of us know Madison has an athletic background (for those of you who actually think a sports connection is necessary for inclusion around here):

The fine folks at Wizard World have sent along just what the audience here in cyberspace has been clamoring for: another version of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.” OK, maybe not clamoring, but still …

The video is entertaining and includes celebrities from Wizard World Comic Con: Bruce Campbell, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Katrina Law, Nicole and Brianna Garcia, Jon Bernthal, Adrianne Curry and David Della Rocco. You can see it by clicking here.
