Dairy Queen a Good Omen for Packers?

January 15, 2012 @ No Comments

The New York Giants play the Green Bay Packers Sunday at Lambeau Field. Miss Wisconsin Laura Kaeppeler won the Miss America title. With that as something of a sign of Cheesehead supremancy, you have to wonder why the visitors are even going to show up.

Tebowing never looked so good: Playboy Playmate Irina Voronina provides her version.

Well, other than the fact that the NFL receives zillions of dollars annually to television such riveting postseason performances — although coming close to the San Francisco 49ers-New Orleans Saints game Saturday will not be easy. For those who watched and/or are aware of how that game’s final couple of minutes went down, you know what we’re talking about. For those who did not watch and/or are unaware, it went something like this:

New Orleans rallied in the game’s final two minutes to score a touchdown and take a three-point lead. San Francisco countered by scoring a touchdown with nine seconds left on an Alex Smith pass to Vernon Davis to win 36-32.

Jaime Edmondson and Sundays around here go together like Jaime Edmondson and Sundays around here.

As good as that game was, the New England Patriots playing the visiting Denver Broncos was bad — well, other than for Patriots fans and those folks inclined to root against Denver quarterback Tim Tebow. In the first half, Patriots QB Tom Brady had five touchdown passes; Tebow had three completions. Good lord! Patriots 45-10.

“A lot of ups and downs,” Tebow said after his second NFL season concluded. “Overall, it’s been a very special opportunity for me, something I’m really thankful for. There’s a lot of things we’re proud of. Obviously, it’s hard to see them all right now.”

Miss America had an interesting perspective on her success.

She spoke out on behalf of children with incarcerated parents.

“There are many of you out there — and I was one of them — but it doesn’t have to define you,” Kaeppeler told the Associated Press after winning the crown and $50,000 scholarship on Saturday night.

Her father served 18 months in prison for mail fraud.

“What happened with my father is not what my year is going to be focused on,” she said. “It’s going to be focused on looking forward and moving to the future because that’s what my family has done and that’s what I’ll encourage others to do, as well.”

While debating whether to run video of Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers or the new Miss America (OK, it was more like talking to myself), it turned into a one-sided argument, so here she is:

For those who are less into evening gowns and all that, how about some swimsuit competition from earlier in the pageant?

For some reason, the videos from the Chicago Bulls-Toronto Raptors are encountering a problem downloading and/or uploading. The best that we can do at the moment (especially with the moment being 4:10 a.m. Sunday) is a little something featuring the Luvabulls. Yes, things could be worse than that. We’ll get back to you if the Bulls videos successfully make their way through YouTube. After a good night’s sleep — OK, more like half a good night’s sleep, but that should work.
