Cubs, White Sox Have Some Sadistic Statistics

July 6, 2013 @ No Comments

Saturday statistics and other assorted figures: Chicago White Sox slugger Adam Dunn went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts Friday in an 8-3 loss at Tampa Bay. That gives him 99 for the season. What’s interesting about that is there are seven big-league players with at least 101. See, things can always be worse (though not by much).

Belated happy bikini day (July 5). Here’s Kate Upton.

* Speaking of strikeouts, Cubs left fielder Alfonso Soriano went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in a 6-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field. He did so on 12 total pitches. Meaning he didn’t waste much time (and many pitches) in the process.

* Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro was picked off second base. Pirates left fielder Starling Marte was 3-for-6 with two stolen bases and two runs scored. In case you were wondering which one was closer to being regarded as a star by objective observers (not to be confused with Cubs fans).

* The Cubs are 12th in National League hitting (.242) and 12th in on-base percentage (.299). The White Sox are 12th in American League hitting (.246) and 14th in on-base percentage (.298). Meaning Monday’s rescheduled Cubs-Sox game should be quite the slugfest.

* Saturday’s scheduled Cubs starter is Edwin Jackson. His 10 losses are tied for second-most in the big leagues. He also is second in the big leagues in wild pitches with 10.

* Saturday’s scheduled Sox starter is Chris Sale. He is third in the AL in walks+hits per nine innings (0.96).

* At 18.8 points per game, Chicago Sky rookie Elena Delle Donne is fifth in WNBA scoring with teammate Epiphanny Prince seventh at 17.9. Delle Donne is third in free-throw percentage (60-of-63, .952) and Prince is seventh (33-of-36, .917). Sky center Sylvia Fowles leads in rebounds per game (12.2). Fowles is third in blocks per game (2.5) and Delle Donne fifth (2.0).

* As long as we’re talking WNBA and the Sky, here is some video from after practice Friday:
