Cubs’ Dempster Streaking Off to Another Club?

July 21, 2012 @ No Comments

Chicago Cubs right-hander Ryan Dempster’s scoreless streak ended at 33 when he allowed three first-inning runs in a 4-1 loss to the Cardinals Friday (July 20) in St. Louis. The questions surrounding the veteran pitcher now turn to where he will end up if/when the Cubs trade him. Among reported landing spots for him is St. Louis. You have to wonder how Cubs fans would deal with that. But if Dempster really wants to show off his Harry Caray impersonation, what better team and town than the one the broadcaster began his big-league career with.

Maleah Jo Bataoel was working at a travel booth at Chicago Exxxotica 2012.

* Speaking of Dempster, congratulations to the Dempster Family Foundation on being among five Midwest Region finalists in the Most Effective Awareness Campaign category for the fourth Annual CLASSY Awards! Persons may vote for the Dempster Family Foundation by clicking here. Voting ends July 26. Winner will be announced July 31. By which time Dempster could be with another team, but the causes that he and his wife Jenny have undertaken are worthwhile regardless of what uniform he might be wearing.

* Speaking of congratulations, hats off (or in this case, perhaps shoes off) to Chicago Sky forward Ruth Riley on receiving the WNBA Cares Community Assist Award for June. She also was honored in 2006 and 2008. The Notre Dame grad has taken a leadership role off the court in the Sky’s community outreach programs as well as continuing to support health-related Nothing But Nets and Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign.

* To keep their fans off the ledge, all the Chicago White Sox have to do really is win one of their games in Detroit this weekend. Meaning, in that they lost 4-2 Friday night to the Tigers, a victory Saturday or Sunday would keep them atop the American League Central. Which, as any baseball expert can tell you, is where the eventual World Series winner is in the third week of July. No? No. But feel free to panic during the dog days of summer. It’s good practice for later in the season.

* Chances are the Chicago Blackhawks will win another Stanley Cup championship before Patrick Kane reaches a level of behavior that most would consider mature. And that’s assuming the Hawks win a crown every five decades or so. Not that anyone on the staff of elliottharris.com can claim to be an expert on maturity and/or claim to be mature.

A little Ryan Dempster as Harry Caray from an interview by longtime Chicago media maven George Castle:

No adult actresses today from the recent Exxxotica Chicago 2012 expo. We do have two lovely ladies who were working at one of the booths that would have to be classified as PG. Bikini competitor Maleah Jo Bataoel and former softball standout Lia Jahnke were manning — OK, more like womaning (if that’s a word — a booth that was travel-related. Each of the ladies took the time to chat (what some of us like to think of as work, thank you).
