Thursday thoughts (or as close to thoughts as the editorial staff at elliottharris.com generally gets): The ire that Chicago Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster showed after being taken out of the game Wednesday (July 25) at Pittsburgh with the Pirates leading 3-2 (which became the final score) demonstrated a certain degree of frustration — not to mention the ability to throw a water cooler. Having perfected his Harry Caray impersonation, maybe Dempster was working on his Carlos Zambrano impression.

* Chicago White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf was part of a panel discussion on baseball in Israel at a fund-raising event at Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse. Asked about international expansion, he said, “I don’t see any baseball expansion right now. If it were up to me, I would contract two teams.” Just a guess that Reinsdorf’s first choice — if he could do so immediately — would be the Detroit Tigers, who are tied with the Sox for the American League Central lead.
* Speaking of the Sox, they have won 10 of their last 11 at home. That’s a .909 winning percentage. Something says Sox management — as pleased as it might be with that record — would be even more pleased if it could achieve that percentage of capacity for attendance at U.S. Cellular Field.
* Football programs Institutions of higher learning Numerous colleges have sent representatives to the Penn State campus to try to lure away football players. All this is part of the process that apparently was inevitable after the NCAA punished the Nittany Lions football program for not being more diligent, open and honest about sexual abuse of young boys by former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky during Joe Paterno’s reign as coach. Such predatory practices are to be decried. Meaning, of course to Penn State fans, the other schools trying to recruit PSU players.
Ruth Riley will be on "Sports & Torts" on Thursday.
If it’s Thursday (which at last look it was — provided that yesterday was Wednesday and tomorrow is Friday), then it’s time for “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris on talkzone.com at noon Chicago time. The always popular program (certainly in the Spada and Harris households) will feature former big-league pitcher Tommy John and WNBA veteran Ruth Riley, who plays for the Chicago Sky. Ruth, who won Olympic gold with the 2004 U.S. women’s basketball team, also will be attending an event Friday at Rockit Bar & Grill, 22 W. Hubbard in downtown Chicago from 6-8:30 p.m.

Ashley Lobo is definitely a favorite around here.
As you may recall, Yanina Beccaria won “Love in the Wild” on Tuesday with partner Ken Barrington. Yanina is a longtime favorite from my days as Quick Hits columnist in the Chicago Sun-Times. Attending the viewing party was Ashley Lobo, who was among the Chicago Blackhawks Ice Crew members when Yanina also was part of the squad.
Like Yanina, Ashley (also a favorite around here) has enjoyed life after the Ice Crew. Her latest effort is part of a YouTube series from The Onion in which she portrays Tara in “Sex House,” a spoof of similarly themed reality shows.
Speaking of the Dodgers (and even if we weren’t), here is adult actress Allison Moore talking about — among other things — the Dodgers. She was kind enough to take some time during the recent Exxxotica Chicago 2012 at Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill., to chat with your humble correspondent.
