Chicago Crave to Hold Second Tryout Jan. 6

December 29, 2012 @ No Comments

In the never-ending quest for the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service (or whatever they might award out here in cyberspace), this site will continue to chronicle the efforts of the newly formed Chicago Crave. That’s the Bikini Basketball Association franchise scheduled to debut in summer 2013.

Franchise owner/CEO Korie Kellogg will be at Chicago Crave tryouts on Jan. 6 at L.A. Fitness in Tinley Park, although probably not in this outfit.

Owner/CEO Korie Kellogg held the team’s first tryouts on the same Sunday as the Chicago Bears-Green Bay Packers game this month. Your humble correspondent opted to attend the tryouts rather than watch the football game. Which reminds me: I forgot to send Korie a thank-you note for not having to watch the Bears falter.

Anyway — and here is the public service part of the program — the Crave will hold its second tryout session on Jan. 6 at L.A. Fitness in Tinley Park (18400 Convention Center Drive) from noon to 3 p.m. Aspiring female players must be 18 or older. They should wear Spandex shorts, sports bra and gym shoes. They also need to bring a bio and two photos of themselves.

The women will be judged on athleticism, attitude, leadership, skill, personality and looks. There is no fee to participate. The team’s web site is www.ChicagoCrave.com. For early registration, interested females may email TryOuts@chicagocrave.com. Information and updates about the Crave are available by texting CCB to 55469.

For those wondering what tryouts look like, there are some videos below for edification. And to look at, too.

* Speaking of the Bears (well, we were several paragraphs ago), they could be playing the same day as Crave tryouts. Hey, no sacrifice is too great to provide bikini basketball coverage. The first round of the NFL postseason is Jan. 5-6. As for Bears fans who say they cannot root for the Green Bay Packers to defeat the Minnesota Vikings (who block the Bears’ path to a wild-card berth), one word: Really? If that’s a problem, root for the Vikings to lose and don’t pay attention to whom they might be playing.

* The Pitch & Hit Club of Chicago will hold its 67th annual Awards Banquet on Jan. 27 at The Carlisle in Lombard, Ill. Tickets are $75 for members and $100 for non-members. Former White Sox organist Nancy Faust will provide music with Tom Shaer master of ceremonies for the evening’s festivities that begin at 4:30 p.m. with cocktails, followed by dinner at 6 and awards starting at 6:30. More information is available by clicking here. Among the 2013 award winners are Goose Gossage and Tony LaRussa.

* Speaking of memorable dates (and even if we weren’t), a happy birthday to Mark Harris, a successful Los Angeles-area art dealer and artist, former youth baseball player who season after season would win “most improved player” honors and a wonderful son (attributes not necessarily listed in order of importance).

As promised, some Chicago Crave videos (we have a few more to run another day, too):

Yes, another reminder regarding the Jay the Joke Holiday Cookbook. As suitable for a New Year’s Day gift as any other day on the calendar. The coobook is the brainchild of Bill McCormick, who runs the jaythejoke.com site.

Included in the cookbook — which is FREE — are recipes likely not found too many other places (if anywhere else at all. Among the food and drink delicacies is a recipe that your humble correspondent had the pleasure of submitting: peanut butter, banana and Durkee Sauce sandwich. Depending on when I actually finish today’s effort, I just might make myself one of those sandwiches (and, yes, I know the recipe without needing to look it up in the cookbook).

You can go to the cookbook by clicking here. And for those of you who think that the only reason that I keep mentioning the cookbook is so that we can run the cover image, that is untrue. It’s not the only reason. Of course, it might be the main reason. But it’s not the only reason.

Generally, there is where videos that may have nothing to do with anything in today’s edition can be found. Today is no exception with model Denise Milani prominently featured in two of them (quite a pair — of videos — if I may say so):
