‘Champs for Charity’ May Have Female Crew, Too

October 25, 2012 @ No Comments

Thursday thoughts (or as close to what passes for thinking around here): Appearing at the “Champs for Charity” exhibition hockey game along with several Chicago Blackhawks (past and present) and other NHL players reportedly will be members of the 2009-10 Blackhawks Ice Crew from the franchise’s Stanley Cup title season. And, yes, such news does serve as an excuse to run a photo of the former Ice Crew members. As if an excuse/reason/anything is needed to do so. The game Friday (Oct. 26) at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., will benefit the Ronald McDonald Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. For tickets, you can click here. The game is to start at 7:30 p.m. Your correspondent might have to attend — if for no other reason than to see how the lovely ladies’ ice-shoveling skills are.

Go to the 'Champs for Charity' hockey game Friday and you just might see some familiar faces.

* You might be aware Taco Bell is going to offer a free taco to everyone in the United States if a player steals a base in the World Series. The folks at Panda Express should have had a gimmick tied to San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo “Kung Fu” Sandoval. Sandoval was something of a Panda express when it came to hitting home runs; he had three in Wednesday’s 8-3 Game 1 victory vs. the visiting Detroit Tigers. Putting him in a class of players to hit threew in a World Series game with Babe Ruth (twice), Reggie Jackson and Albert Pujols.

* Asked by the Chicago Baseball Museum to pick a World Series winner and Most Valuable Player, your humble correspondent selected the Tigers in six games with Game 1 starter Justin Verlander the MVP. Is it too late to change that MVP pick?

Cut by the Chicago Bulls, Marko Jaric may be heading home to wife/supermodel Adriana Lima,

* Speaking of baseball (or a reasonable facsimile thereof in this case), the Chicago Cubs apparently are cracking down on season ticket-holders who supposedly scalp tickets. About 40 persons were notified by letter that their tickets were not being renewed. The team said those affected were professional ticket resellers. THe move supposedly will help other season ticket-holders sell their tickets. Oh, and it might benefit a team whose attendance dropped below 3 million in 2012. Just a guess.

* The Chicago Bulls waived guard Marko Jaric. Meaning fans can wave goodbye to the thought that his spouse, supermodel Adriana Lima, might be at a game at the United Center any time soon. Well, that doesn’t mean we can’t run her photo, does it? Of course not.

* A survey of fans by Nielsen and E-Poll Market Research shows Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh as the NFL’s most disliked player with Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler No. 2. The Dallas Cowboys have the distinction of having two QBs — Tony Romo and Kyle Orton — on the list. THe Bears did place linebacker Brian Urlacher on the most liked list at No. 8.

The least liked: 1. Ndamukong Suh, Detroit DT; 2. Jay Cutler, Chicago QB; 3. Michael Vick, Philadelphia QB; 4. Randy Moss, San Francisco WR; 5. Matt Leinart, Oakland QB, 6. Tony Romo, Dallas QB; 7. Kyle Orton, Dallas QB; 8. Santonio Holmes, New York Jets WR; 9. Mark Sanchez, New York Jets QB; 10. Brady Quinn, Kansas City QB.

The most liked players: 1. Troy Polamalu, Pittsburgh S; 2. Drew Brees, New Orleans QB; 3. Charles Woodson, Green Bay DB; 4. Peyton Manning, Denver QB; 5. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay QB; 6. Rob Gronkowski, New England TE; 7. Robert Griffin III, Washington QB; 8. Brian Urlacher, Chicago LB; 9. Donald Driver, Green Bay WR; 10. Matthew Stafford, Detroit QB.

The Ice Crew of 2009-10 may be reuniting at Friday's hockey event.

If it’s Thursday (and with early voting showing that yesterday was Wednesday and tomorrow is Friday, then we are projecting today as indeed being Thursday — provided that you are reading this on Oct. 25 or any subsequent Thursday), then it is time once again for an other edition of “Sports & Torts” at noon Chicago time on talkzone.com with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris. This week’s guests are legendary broadcaster Vin Scully and former NFL and Illini football star Bobby Mitchell. The show also will become available on podcast. There is no fetching female on the program, but the guests are so good that you probably won’t miss them. OK, maybe not. As a consolation prize, how about another photo of the 2009-10 Blackhawks Ice Crew?

Some Adriana Lima video? Why not:

And a little Ice Crew video from the 2009-10 squad (for those who need incentive to take in Friday’s hockey/ice-shoveling action) with Ashley Lobo conducting interviews:
