Cavs’ Irving Scores 57 to Top Spurs in OT

March 13, 2015 @ No Comments

Actions, distractions and reactions to some of Thursday’s happenings: If you stayed up late enough and happened to be so inclined, you could have watched the Cleveland Cavaliers play at San Antonio — provided that you had access to cable television and TNT. Some people might regard the matchup a preview of the NBA Finals. You mean without the Chicago Bulls in them? Hate to break it to anyone, but the Cavs — who prevailed 128-125 in overtime — sure looked like the likely Eastern Conference champion. If not more than that.

* Speaking of the Cavs, guard Kyrie Irving had a career-high and franchise-high 57 points against the defending NBA champs. In case recuperating Bulls guard was looking for anyone’s game to emulate. Irving was 20-for-32 (including all seven three-point attempts) and 10-of-10 from the foule line in 47 minutes of playing time — and had only two turnovers.

* Still speaking of the Cavs, LeBron James — remember him, the best player in the league? — had 31 points as Irving’s sidekick. That’s about as good a dynamic duo as anything this side of Batman and Robin.

And elsewhere:

* The Cubs lost to the Los Angeles Angels 10-9. Meaning Cubs fans can focus on Addison Russell going 3-for-4 and Kris Bryant 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs rather than focus on anything the pitching staff did.

* The White Sox lost 7-4 to the San Francisco Giants. Alexei Ramirez drove in three runs for the Sox and Avisail Garcia went 2-for-3. Closer David Robertson failed to complete an inning and allowed two runs. On the bright (?) side, he pitched the fourth inning, and your humble correspondent is fairly certain they don’t issue blown saves early in the game. Yeah, not all that bright.

* Speaking of the Sox, they also lost 7-3 to the Texas Rangers. On the bright (?) side for the Sox, they used pitchers recognizable only to diehard fans and/or old friends.

* Oh, yes. Will Ferrell played first base for the Cubs and designated hitter for the Sox as part of his playing every position Thursday as part of a charitable effort (and likely with some footage coming soon to a TV screen near you). We would write more about all this — and other topics — except for the fact that some of us fell asleep in providing creative content for typing today’s effort. So we’re way behind schedule (assuming we even pay attention to things such as schedules). Anyway, thank you for making it this far.
