Bulls Persistent as Well as Inconsistent

Sunday smorgasbord: The Chicago Bulls continued the one thing they have been consistent about this season — their inconsistency. This time it came in a 112-107 victory vs. the visiting Phoenix Suns.

* Speaking of consistency, the closest thing the Bulls have to that on their roster is forward Pau Gasol. He had a game-high 22 points and game-high 14 rebounds in recording his 15th double-double in 16 games.

* Bulls guard Derrick Rose had 16 points and only one turnover after having six turnovers in Friday’s loss at Detroit. He also played only 25 minutes.

* Any time the Bulls win, coach Tom Thibodeau should be at least moderately happy — although not so much when his team allows the opponent to shoot 53.4 percent from the field. The Bulls’ defense does have a knack for leaving a shooter wide-open for a three-pointer. It also has a knack for allowing opponents to drive to the basket. Guessing it’s getting close to the point for being known to play up-tempo basketball rather than be considered one of the NBA’s better defensive teams.

* Bulls reserves scored the team’s first 19 points in the fourth quarter. Aaron Brooks had eight of the points and added two assists in that run. When his game is on, he can look better than Rose. The good news for the Bulls is Rose does not need to perform at an MVP level for the team to be successful.

* Speaking of Brooks, just for fun, Thibodeau should start him and sit Rose. OK, maybe not so much fun for Rose. It’s just a guess (the uneducated variety, as always, because that’s the only kind you’ll find around here) that most Bulls fans figured Rose would be performing at close to pre-surgeries level by now.

* Sorry to hear about Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh missing the rest of the season because of blood clots in his lungs. The news might make some fans who have booed him reconsider their behavior. Then again …
