Bulls Have Some Guarded Optimism

November 11, 2012 @ No Comments

With temperatures in the 60s, Chicago experienced something of a warmup Saturday (Nov. 10). So did the Bulls, albeit of a basketball variety.

The Bulls defeated the Minnesota Timbewolves 87-80 at the United Center as prelude to the Boston Celtics coming to town Monday.

Stars adn stripes forever: Nothing says Veterans Day quite like Joanna Krupa in this outfit. Hooray for the red, white and blue. Or lack of it.

Unless this correspondent’s eyes and ears were deceiving late Saturday/early Sunday, it sure sounded and looked like Comcast SportsNet had the Bulls playing their next game Tuesday. That contest is scheduled for Nov.12 — which is by most estimations Monday — provided that we’re talking about 2012. Which I’m fairly certain it is.

Anyway, back to the warmth of a Bulls victory that left both teams with 4-2 records and was accomplished without Ricky Rubio and Kevin Love playing for Minnesota because of injuries. Of course, the Bulls are playing without star guard Derrick Rose, who is recuperating from offseason surgery for his right anterior-cruciate ligament.

The Bulls also might be playing Monday without starting guard Kirk Hinrich, who departed Saturday’s contest in the second quarter because of a strained right hip and did not return. His exit meant more minutes for rookie reserve Marquis Teague, who played 6:13 and recorded his first NBA points on a layup with 6.5 seconds left in the third quarter.

Also off the bench, Nate Robinson scored a team-high 18 points in 23:00 and Marco Belinelli 11 (including 3-of-5 from three-point range) in 22:33.

What happens if Hinrich is out for a while?

“Marquis and I will be ready,” Robinson said.

Teague had recorded four DNPs (did not play) with his only game action at Cleveland (3:32),

Asked about the 19-year-old who left Kentucky after his freshman season, Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said, “If he is in that locker room, he can play. Marquis practices well. When his opportunity came, I felt he would do a good job. He used his speed to attack the basket. I expect that to continue if he gets more opportunities.”

“He is a great young player,” Robinson said.

“It felt good, get a bucket in, just to help my team,” Teague said. “I wasn’t really overwhelmed. I felt like I was comfortable, ready to play.”

The unseasonably warm weather did bring thoughts of summertime attire to mind. As in bikinis, of course. As if weather really is a factor in any of that. Regardless, here is some video that seemed fitting along those lines:
