Bulls Have Answers — With Plenty in Reserve

January 22, 2012 @ No Comments

Questions were answered in the Chicago Bulls’ 95-89 victory Saturday night against the visiting Charlotte Bobcats. Among them:

* Can the Bulls win without Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson and John Lucas III playing? Answer: yes. All four were sidelined with injuries.

* Can Mike James still play at the NBA level? Answer: yes. He had 10 assists and nine points in 16:31 on the court.

* Will Omer Asik ever start an NBA game? ANswer: yes. He made his first start in the NBA when Noah was unable to go after testing a sprained left ankle in warmups. Asik responded with 15 rebounds in 38:36 playing time (second on the night only to Luol Deng’s 39:37 for the Bulls).

OK, the choice was a photo of Ashley Mattingly or Brian Scalabrine. Such hard decisions.

* Is Richard “Rip” Hamilton sufficiently recovered from a pulled groin to be an effective player as he has been throughout his career? Answer: yes. The former Detroit Pistons star who is in his first season with the Bulls, had 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting

* Will Brian Scalabrine ever play any time other than the closing minutes of the fourth quarter? Answer: yes. He entered the game in the first quarter vs. the Bobcats. His on-court presence marked the first time this season he had played other than in the fourth quarter.

* Did Scalabrine shower and dress at halftime because he was accustomed to doing so after going to the locker from just having played? Answer: ???? (otherwise known as: to be determined).

“You’ll have to ask him,” Bulls forward Deng, who had 22 points and eight rebounds told your humble correspondent after the game. Deng lockers next to Scalabrine, who had showered (presumably so), dressed and departed before yours truly had the opportunity to ask him about all that.

Scalabrine managed 5:40 in the opening quarter and did not get off the bench for the rest of the game — despite the usual chants for him from the crowd.

Maybe the editorial staff at elliottharris.com will be able to unearth the answer another time.
