Bulls Beat Kings; Taj Beats Clock on New Deal

November 1, 2012 @ No Comments

It is likely Taj Gibson has had better games. The Chicago Bulls reserve forward had four points and five rebounds in the team’s season-opening 93-87 victory against the visiting Sacramento Kings on Wednesday (Oct. 31) at the United Center.

Taj Gibson or Ciara Price? Hardly a difficult decision to make.

It is unlikely Gibson has had better nights. After saying earlier in the day he would not be signing a contract extension before an 11 p.m. deadline, he said after the game — and before the deadline — he had come to terms with the team on a deal.

“I’m very happy that I’m going to remain a Bull for the long haul,” Gibson said. “The Bulls are like my second family and I’m excited to know that I’m going to continue to wear ‘Bulls’ across my chest.”

It is believed to be a four-year deal worth up to $39 million.

“Taj has proven to be a key member of our team and we are very pleased to have reached an agreement with him,” general manager Gar Forman said. “We look forward to him to continue to develop his game and we are happy that Taj will be a Bull long term.”

In his first three seasons with the Bulls, Gibson, 27, averaged 7.9 points and 6.2 rebounds oer game.

Against the Kings, center Joakim Noah led the Bulls with 23 points (including 11-of-12 free throws) and 10 rebounds. The game was not a thing of beauty.

“Most games are going to be like this,” Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said. “We have to find ways to win.”

Of Noah’s performance, Thibodeau said: “It’s Halloween, and he had a monster night.”

If it’s Thursday (which the calendar-control department at elliottharris.com says it is — based on the reasoning that yesterday was Wednesday and tomorrow will be Friday), then it is time once more for another edition of “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris on talkzone.com at noon Chicago time.

The scheduled guest for the Nov. 1 show are former Chicago Bears defensive lineman Dan Hampton and Ciara Price, the November 2011 Playboy Playmate. Well, she will be on the show if she has recovered from an evening of Halloween partying. The highly acclaimed (in the Spada and Harris households) program also will become available later in the day.

As busy as the calendar-control department around here was, the video-research team was even busier. Here are some efforts that that department came up with:
