Bulls, Bears Going Different Directions

December 26, 2011 @ No Comments

The Chicago Bulls went west for their Dec. 25 NBA season-opening victory in Los Angeles against the Lakers. The Chicago Bears went north — to Green Bay — for their Christmas night game; followed by going south — as in out of the playoff picture — after losing to the Packers.

Co-captain Carissa was among the Luvabulls in a national TV ad on the Bulls-Lakers game on Dec. 25,

It’s too early to compare the seasons. If reigning MVP Derrick Rose and the Bulls reach the postseason, they will have done better than the Bears, who conceivably could finish 8-8 if they can manage a victory Sunday at Minnesota. The Vikings will be without injured star running back Adrian Peterson in what promises to be quite the contest. OK, maybe not.

Injuries have played a role in the Bears’ demise. Quarterback Jay Cutler and running back Matt Forte have been out, and the offense has been down. Any thought of Cutler returning for the season finale seems preposterous, unless he might need some film footage for a reality television series with fiancee Kristin Cavallari.

That said, the Packers did look like they could score when they wanted and/or had to in the 35-18 decision.

Speaking of injuries, Lakers star guard Kobe Bryant was impressive for a guy with wrist ligament problems. Perhaps not as impressive as he is when healthy, but good enough so that the Bulls had to win the game with a basket on their last possession and defense that thwarted Bryant on the Lakers’ final possession.

From a television viewing perspective, the Bulls-Lakers 88-87 thriller was a vast improvement over the Miami Heat blowout of the Dallas Mavericks that preceded the West Coast contest.

There was one complaint from this vantage point, and it involved Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau being interviewed with the Laker Girls in the background after the first quarter. Isn’t technology — not to mention common sense — available to have his image in a corner so that the dancers could enjoy a more prominent position? Oh, well.

Speaking of NBA dancers, the Chicago Luvabulls were on the Dec. 25 national telecast — as part of a Budweiser commercial. Luvabulls Ashley, Carissa, Erika and Kafi were among the featured personalities on the 30-second spot.

It's Luvabull Ashley.

It's Luvabull Erika.

It's Luvabull Kafi.

Speaking of the Laker Girls, elliottharris.com West Coast correspondent Mark Harris was taking some well-deserved time off to be with family and was not at the Bulls-Lakers contest. So this footage someone else took and posted to YouTube from a preseason game will have to suffice for the moment.

Look for Mark to provide more content for this site in 2012.

Anyway, here is the video from one of the Lakers preseason games against the Clipppers in Los Angeles:

For those in the audience still in the holiday spirit (or perhaps those merely wanting to see some Victoria’s Secret models), here is a little something:
