Blissful Updates

The Lingerie Football League’s Chicago Bliss opened its season Friday night at Toyota Park in Bridgeview.

The team that had been undefeated in its previous venue, the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, played its first home game in the great outdoors. And it wasn’t so great for the Bliss. It lost. To the expansion Las Vegas Sin 34-20. Some might say the Bliss got caught with its pants down, although there did not appear to be any wardrobe malfunctions among the team’s players. And that had to be considered among the bright spots for the Bliss (well, except perhaps for those fans hoping for a little more skin). Dropped passes, bad snaps from center, fumbles on offense and a defense that was vulnerable to the run and pass.

The players definitely were hot. With temperatures and humidity in the range of 90 for both categories, there indeed was some sweating going on. Given some of the stories that had been coming from Las Vegas about turmoil with the team, it was somewhat surprising to see the visitors prevail. And fairly easily at that.

Tasha ”The Tank” Pryor, who has been the standout running back for the Bliss, added defense to her duties against the Sin. Newcomer ChrisDell Harris showed some skills as her replacement in the backfield. Not the punishing running that Tasha can be, but ChrisDell definitely has speed to turn a short gain into a touchdown. More on ChrisDell another day.

If there is good news to come from the loss, it could be that reinforcements are on the way. But we will save that information for another day.
