Beauties of decisions: Sox, ESPN & Lariyah

October 7, 2011 @ No Comments

So the Chicago White Sox made some news Thursday by not naming Dave Martinez their manager. Or Sandy Alomar Jr. Or any of the other candidates thought to be under consideration. And mostly by naming Robin Ventura manager, despite Ventura’s lack of managerial experience.

A photo of Robin Ventura, Hank Williams Jr. or Lariyah Daniels? Such difficult decisions.

And Sox fans won’t know by the end of spring training — or the end of the 2012 season — whether Ventura was a good selection by general manager Ken Williams. Well, unless Ventura is a total disaster. About all anybody can say of Ventura in comparing the former Sox third baseman to predecessor Ozzie Guillen is that Ventura figures to be less profane.

ESPN parted ways with singer Hank Williams Jr. Thursday for comments he made this week, including comparing President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler. Williams viewed hsi dismissal (though he said it was his decision to depart) as a violation of his First Amendment rights. Wrong again. One question regarding the tune Williams performed before “Monday Night Football” games: How will those of us who don’t tune in before the fourth quarter know he’s gone? Maybe he can become a troubadour on Fox News Channel.

At the Oct. 1 Fitness Midwest event at Harper College in Palatine, Ill., lovely Lariyah Daniels took home the trophy for winning the bikini tall division. It was her second victory in as many weeks.

Lariyah Daniels, bikini tall champion and friend of this web site. :)

Naturally, your humble correspondent attended the event to chronicle Lariyah’s efforts. There are photos and videos to accompany such coverage. So brevity being the soul of wit, we shall try to be witty with the words and less so with the photos and videos.

So here you go (and don’t blame the contestants for any lack of quality in the videos):
