A Slice of Life: Bulls’ Rose Undergoes Surgery

May 13, 2012 @ No Comments

Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose, who suffered a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament in Game 1 of the team’s opening-round NBA playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers, had successful surgery Saturday (May 12). As best can be determined, the term “successful surgery” means the doctor performing the procedure and all the other medical staff involved in the process will be paid.

A photo of Luvabulls dance team member Jessica will have to serve as today's consolation for Bulls fans. That works.

* What has to happen for a surgery involving an athlete to be termed “unsuccessful” by the folks passing out the information? Well, presumbably if you don’t make it off the operating table alive, that would qualify. Otherwise, everything else is speculation.

* Post-operative questions remain. First and foremost being: Will Rose be able to return to the form that earned him the 2011 NBA Most Valuable Player Award? Something says we should have a better idea a year from now (hint: If the Bulls don’t reach the second round in 2013 with Rose leading the way, there’s probably as accurate an answer as you will have).

* As promised, even though the Bulls’ season is over, we will provide continuing coverage of the Luvabulls dance team (hey, it’s not a bad consolation prize as far as some of us can see). Today we are pleased to feature Jessica. To view her officials Luvabulls video, you can click here.

* The Los Angeles Lakers advance past the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference and earn a matchup vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder. Metta World Peace is back in the Lakers lineup after serving a seven-game suspension for an elbow thrown at the Thunder’s James Harden. For those — including Nuggets coach George Karl — who thought commissioner David Stern should have been more stern in his punishment of the player formerly known as Ron Artest, maybe Stern is adjudicating by the John Lennon tune, “Give Peace a Chance.” Not sure the Lakers will have much of one vs. the favored Thunder.

Yes, we’re still celebrating Jaclyn Swedberg being named the 2012 Playboy Playmate of the Year. If all this seems as if somehow we are catering to the lovely lady in the hopes that someday she will appear on “Sports & Torts” with David Spada and Elliott Harris on talkzone.com, all we can say is: Hey, that’s not a bad idea. OK, cue the video:
