Saturday smorgasbord: The Charlotte Bobcats ended a 16-game losing streak and posted a 98-91 victory Friday (Feb. 17) against the Raptors in Toronto to improve to 4-26. The triumph came on owner Michael Jordan’s 49th birthday. At this rate, the Bobcats may reach double digits for victories by his 50th.

A photo of Kate Upton or Jeremy Lin? Linsanity has to stop somewhere.

* Jeremy Lin and the New York Knicks lost to the Phoenix Suns 89-85 at Madison Square Garden. There might be Lin-gering concerns about the Harvard grad’s smarts because of 45 turnovers — he had nine vs. Phoenix — in his first seven career starts. That figure is the highest for any player since the NBA started keeping the stat in 1977-78:

Player (turnovers)
Jeremy Lin (45)
Glenn Robinson (38)
Mitch Richmond (35)
Jerry Stackhouse (35)
Allen Iverson (34)

* President Barack Obama campaigned Thursday in San Francisco with 49ers tight end Vernon Davis. Obama told Davis: “If you want to come and play for the Bears you are welcome to do it.” The idea drew boos from the crowd. All of wich likely means Davis isn’t going anywhere, and Obama is not overly concerned about carrying California in November.

One of the great comedians of the 20th century — and working on the 21st, too — is Jonathan Winters. Those of us old enough to remember (well, as long as we don’t forget — which always becomes a possibility with the aging process) recall Winters as a great improvisational talent. His visits to the “Tonight Show” with Jack Paar and subsequently Johnny Carson always were great entertainment, even if the hosts never were quite sure where Winters might take the conversation.

One of his bits involved baseball, a sport he enjoyed since his days growing up in Ohio. Winters also was a presence in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ dugout before games. David Spada and Elliott Harris, co-hosts of “Sports & Torts” on talkzone.com, had the wonderul experience of chatting briefly with the man who was Robin Williams before Robin Williams was Robin Williams. Or something like that.

Here is their Feb. 17 conversation — but first, a word from our sponsors — or potential sponsors; anyone interested in advertising on “Sports & Torts” (and who wouldn’t be?) may contact David at david@injuryinillinois.com. We now return to our regularly scheduled programming:

For those unfamiliar with Winters, here are a few clips:

Speaking of comedians and sports, talk-show personality Ellen Degeneres had Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model Kate Upton on her show the other day and tried to have Upton say she is dating New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. And tried. And tried. Upton was up to the challenge of not revealing anything — as opposed to her cover photo, which does a fairly good job of revealing quite a bit.
