Bulls Off Target in Loss to Wizards

January 10, 2015 @ No Comments

The Chicago Bulls missed 20 of their first 24 field-goal attempts in losing 102-86 Friday on the road to the Washington Wizards. For the game the Bulls were 32-for-83. So, on the bright (?) side, they were 28-for-59 the rest of the game. Whoopee!

* Bulls guard Derrick Rose had 19 point (8-of-19 from the field) with two free-throw attempts, two assists and four turnovers. If the object for him this season is not to peak before the postseason, he’s doing a helluva job.

* Bulls guard Jimmy Butler went 2-for-12 from the field in scoring 10 points. Yeah, the Bulls PR department might want to hold off on any Most Valuable Player promotions for a while.

* On the bright side for the Bulls, they do play at home Saturday against Milwaukee, which likely should cure their two-game losing streak.

* At Friday’s introductory press conference for new Bears general manager Ryan Pace, team chairman George McCaskey said: “I don’t think it would be right to talk about the specifics about the head coach search. It’s in Ryan’s capable hands now, and however he wants to go forward, that’s how we’re going to do it.” Sounds good. Well, until Pace mentions he won’t be the only one involved in selecting the coach. Because Bears CEO Ted Phillips has such a great track record in that regard. The more things don’t change the more they stay the same.

* The Cubs signed veteran outfielder Chris Denorfia to a one-year contract. Because every team that is building a team for the long term wants a 34-year-old who is a career .272 hitter. OK, that’s not fair to him. Every team that has Jed Hoyer as general manager wants to have players from the previous team where Hoyer was general manager (San Diego). The only thing better is to have players from the previous team where Theo Epstein was general manager (Boston).
