Should Bulls’ Last 2014 Game Be Forgot? Yeah

December 31, 2014 @ No Comments

Midweek musings: As guessed forecast in this space, the Chicago Bulls had a better field-goal percentage Tuesday night than they did in their Monday victory at Indiana. Trouble is when you shoot 34.5 percent (as they did Monday), it’s difficult for an NBA team — especially one with title hopes — to do much worse. And the trouble was Tuesday, despite improving to a less-than-lofty 38.4 percent, the Bulls lost 96-82 to the visiting Brooklyn Nets. Your humble correspondent guarantees the Bulls will not shoot that poorly again this year. Mainly because the Bulls’ next game isn’t until next year. Meaning Jan. 1, 2015 (Thursday for calendar-challenged folks), at home vs. Denver.

* Speaking of poor shooting, Bulls guard Derrick Rose (he of the 5-for-20 Monday) had almost nowhere to go but up. Amazingly he found a way to not. His 2-for-15 vs. the Nets was the second-worst shooting game of his pro career when he has attempted 10 or more field goals. If it’s any consolation to Bulls fans (and the guess here is that it is not), he went 1-for-13 in 2012 against Miami.

* If it’s any consolation to Bulls fans (and the guess again here is that it is not), Jimmy Butler was 3-for-12 from the field in scoring eight points. He was 2-for-3 from the free-throw line and Rose 0-for-0. Which speaks to the lack of driving to the basket and/or any officiating complaints some folks might have. If people are going to give Butler a theoretical salary bump in free agency after good games, do they decrease the amount after poor ones? Asking for a friend.

* Speaking of Denver (as was the case a few paragraphs ago), the Nuggets lost to the Los Angeles Lakers 111-103 Tuesday. Former Bulls guard Nate Robinson is with Denver. He came off the bench to score 13 points and record two blocks. One of the blocks came against former Bulls forward Carlos Boozer, who had 19 points off the bench. An uneducated guess (the only variety to be found around here) says Robinson will not block a Pau Gasol shot Thursday.

* Jim Harbaugh, who was introduced as football coach at the University of Michigan, someday could become coach of the Chicago Bears. But only if the former Bears quarterback would be willing to take a pay cut (assuming current ownership still is in place at that time).

* Speaking of the Bears, if their marketing department hasn’t started the wheels in motion for a Virginia McCaskey bobblehead, then those folks are missing out on a golden opportunity.

* Still speaking of the Bears, recently fired New York Jets coach Rex Ryan reportedly has been contacted by the San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons about their coaching vacancies. The Bears apparently are having a real slow time connecting to AOL to email him.

Yes, this is the final post of 2014. Which means there should be some sort of review of the year. And the top 10 this. Or the top 10 that. Or resolutions. Yeah, resolutions always are good to run. Make up some for other people. Even better.

Sorry. None of that here.

Not that I don’t reflect on the year that is about to go into the history books. Or wherever years go when they are finished. Sometimes when you are asleep (and, yes, I have unusual sleeping habits), I do become contemplative — or something like that. After all, when you have trouble remembering what day of the week it is, great (or even moderate) introspection is not always the highest priority.

What is a high priority is saying thank you to all of you in cyberspace who have visited here on a regular — or even irregular basis. For those who are a bit irregular, might I suggest more fiber and liquids in your diet. But seriously, yes seriously, thank you for stopping by. And hopefully enjoying the photos and video and possibly even the text that I put together on a daily basis.

May 2015 be a year of health and happiness. And, of course, non-gratuitous videos and photos.

Here is where to go for a daily dose of non-gratuitous video (thanks to the evolved efforts of the editorial and video departments at ElliottHarris.com):
