Trestman Reiterates Cutler ‘Our Quarterback’

December 6, 2014 @ No Comments

A day after Thursday night’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears coach Marc Trestman said Jay Cutler “is our quarterback.” As if anyone else might be. The Bears have former Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen as their backup. He’s not a particularly good NFL QB. Which seemingly is the way Cutler likes it. At some point, the Bears need to bring in a quarterback who conceivably could be someone who could replace Cutler temporarily. Either that, or Bears management has to find a starting quarterback who does not mind having a capable backup.

* Speaking of the Bears, receiver Brandon Marshall is likely out for the season with two broken ribs and a lung injury. He definitely is out for the Dec. 15 Monday night game against New Orleans. He should be ready for the Super Bowl. Well, if he wants to host a party or something like that.

* The Chicago Cubs announced former pitcher Ryan Dempster will retire as a Cub and also become a special assistant to president of baseball operations Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer. Dempster, who hopes to be able to help entice free-agent pitcher Jon Lester to join the Cubs, also will remain an analyst for MLB Network. Well, until someone realizes there is an inherent conflict of interest in having a team employee also employed by MLB Network. And if Dempster does have to give up one of his jobs, here’s hoping it’s the one with the Cubs. Well, unless Dempster becomes part of a broadcast team for the team.
