Time Is of the Essence for Bulls’ Rose, Thibodeau

November 30, 2014 @ No Comments

Sunday smorgasbord: The Chicago Bulls play the Nets on Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn. Meaning it’s the last chance that Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau has to use his allotted minutes for Derrick Rose in November games. Even though Rose may have accumulated minutes by being injured and missing games, something says it would be unwise for him to be on the court for more than about 30 (in the postseason, yes; in this journey to get there, no).

* OK, so the media reports are that the White Sox have interest in Oakland A’s (and former Cubs) right-hander Jeff Samardzija. Until a deal is done — with the Sox or another team — all the chatter and printed words are nothing more than public negotiation designed to increase the A’s return in the deal.

* Speaking of a Samardzija deal, he has one years left on his contract. Meaning he can walk after the 2015 season. If he’s in a Sox uniform for 2015, it just might be a sign that owner Jerry Reinsdorf would like one more legitimate run at a World Series crown before he sells the team. Either that or he’s trying to lure Cubs/Samardzija fans to U.S. Cellular Field where they have bleachers good to go for Opening Day.

* Speaking of bleachers, the Cubs say theirs might not be reconstructed for the start of the season. As if this should be a surprise to Cubs fans. Something says the team the Cubs put on the field may not be ready for the start of the season.

* Linebacker Lance Briggs is said to want to continue his NFL career. As we stated Saturday, most likely it won’t be with the Chicago Bears, who placed him on injured reserve Friday (meaning he won’t be playing again this season). Also most likely, Briggs won’t be making the money he has been with the Bears and won’t have the role he has enjoyed as he once did with the Bears. Maybe the Green Bay Packers will offer him a contract, if for no other reason than to have him get up for at least two games in 2015 vs. his former employer.

* Speaking of the Packers, are they a reasonable Sunday substitute for the Bears in late-afternoon sports viewing? No doubt there will be some in the viewing audience rooting against the Packers and some rooting against the visiting New England Patriots. And some rooting against both teams.

* A fight broke out at a Victoria’s Secret over bras that were part of a post-Thanksgiving sale? What a bunch of boobs!
