Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Former NBA Most Valuable Player Derrick Rose suffered an injury as the Chicago Bulls defeated …

* On the bright side for the Bulls, they remained undefeated — if not uninjured — on the road (5-0, 7-2 overall). They also handed the Raptors their first home loss of the season with a 100-93 decision. Rose departed in the fourth quarter after apparently tweaking his left hamstring. He may have an MRI Friday. Meaning his status — as is everyone’s — is day-to-day. Then again, not everyone has a game set for Saturday night at the United center. Or a history of injuries that sideline him for prolonged periods.

* Pau Gasol (12-of-19 from the field) had a season-high 27 points as every Bulls starter except Rose shot 50 percent or better. Rose (20 points in 30 minutes) was 5-of-14 from the field. Meaning he had as many made shots as he did turnovers.

* Speaking of Rose, teammate Joakim Noah had this to say about Rose: “Every time something happens to him, people act like it’s the end of the world, and that’s fucking so lame to me. Relax. He’s coming back from two crazy surgeries. Obviously we’re being conservative with him, and when things aren’t going right, he’s got to listen to his body more than anybody. So everybody needs to chill the fuck out. I’m sorry for cursing but I’m really passionate. I don’t like to see him down, and he doesn’t say that he’s down, but I just don’t like it when people portray him and judge him because it’s not fair to him. It’s not.”

* Breaking news (OK, maybe not really): Bears quarterback Jay Cutler said he realizes he needs to play better. Quite the revelation, isn’t it? That’s like me saying I know I need to lose some weight. Unless I do something about it, the situation won’t change. Wondering if Cutler realizes he needs to make changes for him to improve.

* Speaking of the Bears, they have a home game Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, who still are without star running back Adrian Peterson, who is suspended for hitting his son. Meaning if the Vikings win, the Bears will be subjected to more verbal abuse by fans — which is a far easier situation to deal with than being subjected to physical abuse by a parent. In case that wasn’t already apparent.

* Still speaking of the Bears, receiver Brandon Marshall challenged a Detroit Lions fan to fight him for $25,000 because of comments made on Twitter to Marshall. In case anyone was wondering whether Marshall was focused on Sunday’s game at Soldier Field.
