Bears Off to Good Start Before They Even Begin

September 5, 2014 @ No Comments

Well, what do you know. The Chicago Bears are undefeated and ahead of the Green Bay Packers. OK, so the Packers lost Thursday night at Seattle in the 2014 NFL season opener 36-16, and the Bears don’t play till Sunday at Soldier Field against the Buffalo Bills. Optimism reigns until further notice (meaning the first time the Bears lose a game).

Throwback Thursday had Jaime Edmondson picking Seattle to win.

*With Cincinnati losing at Baltimore on Thursday, the Chicago Cubs find themselves a mere two games out of fourth place in the National League Central. Meaning the Sept. 15-17 Cubs-Reds series at Wrigley Field could be key to any hopes of avoiding last place. See, there is something to look forward to in the world of September baseball for the Cubs after all.

* Speaking of the Cubs, they are raising ticket prices in 2015 for some of their seats. In case anyone was wondering what the price of optimism is. And to think the club had the actual audacity to charge big-league prices for the team it put on the field this season. Pretty sure this qualifies as laughable.

* Speaking of laughs, comedian Joan Rivers provided more than her fair share in an incredible career. She died Thursday at age 81. Once upon a time (OK, more like a few decades ago), your humble correspondent and The Wife saw her in New York. Not performing but on an escalator in a Georg Jensen store. If memory serves (which it occasionally does), she was dressed fashionably in slacks and a light brown-and-white fur jacket. Everybody has a Joan Rivers story. Or so it seems. This is the best that I could come up with. And as I ponder her mortality and that non-meeting that day long ago, all I can say is I sure miss that Georg Jensen store. the humor and laughs she provided in her early years (if things go right, there will be a sample of that in today’s video section). And I do miss that Georg Jensen store, too.
