Throwback Thursday? Try Throw Away Wednesday

July 31, 2014 @ No Comments

Some days simply don’t go according to plan. Wednesday, for instance. Just ask the Chicago White Sox. Starter Hector Noesi gave up six first-inning runs (pretty sure that wasn’t part of the plan) in a 7-2 loss to the Tigers in Detroit. On the bright (?) side, Noesi (5-8) did last six innings and threw only 87 pitches (57 for strikes).

* Also not going according to plan was the effort of Chicago Cubs starter Travis Wood. He allowed four runs in six innings. On the bright (?) side, the Cubs rallied to tie the game at 4 with two eight-inning runs. Also on the bright (?) side was the game did not last six hours or more. And Wood did strike out 11, even if he did need 117 pitches to make it through six innings.

* And then there was the day at the corporate headquarters of ElliottHarris.com. Because of circumstances beyond our control. your humble correspondent was unable to monitor the news of the day as closely as desired. Being away from a computer, cell phone, just about any means of communication for most of the day meant for a late night of trying to catch up. When the night did not go as planned, your humble correspondent ended up starting to craft words of wisdom typing much later than usual. Meaning at a normal (if we may use normal in any context regarding this site) rate, we would be finished after the sun rose. Not that such a situation hasn’t occurred before. This time, however, we have opted to cut short the verbiage in an effort to get some sleep at a reasonably decent hour. And, yes, for some of us “decent” may be open to interpretation.

* Speaking of things going according to plan, if they do, the guests on Thursday’s “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris at noon Central time on Talkzone.com will be former baseball stars Steve Garvey and Greg Luzinski. The show also will be available later Thursday via podcast at the Talkzone.com site.
