Augustin a Definite Plus for Bulls vs. Lakers

January 21, 2014 @ No Comments

Random thoughts (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) while wondering whether the Chicago Bulls will be able to to keep guard D.J. Augustin beyond this season:

A photo of Leanna Decker in Bulls attire work for us. From a photo shoot for rsvlts.com.

* Augustin, who led the Bulls with 27 points in their 102-100 overtime victory Monday against the Los Angeles Lakers at the United Center, was an impressive 5-of-7 on three-point attempts. His plus-minus rating was minus-3. That’s the same number as Taj Gibson, who had the game-winning layup at the buzzer. For those wondering what plus-minus ratings are worth.

* Let the record show the Bulls (20-20) are .500 for the first time since November. What that means is unclear. Well, other than perhaps a mediocre first-round selection in the 2014 draft.

* The Lakers without Kobe Bryant are 10 games under .500. The Bulls without Derrick Rose are .500. With both players out with injury, couldn’t they at least have had a game of h-o-r-s-e or something at halftime?

* Former Bulls forward Luol Deng made his home debut for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He didn’t disappoint the home crowd — 20 points — even if the Cavs did with a 102-97 loss to Dallas. His next game will be Wednesday. At home. Against the Bulls. As close to must-see TV as Bulls fans can expect this season.

* For all those who piled on Seattle Seahawks defensive back Richard Sherman for his postgame interview/bluster/whatever you want to call it with Erin Andrews on Fox, ask yourself this: If he played for your team (whatever that team may be, whatever sport that might be) and that team moments earlier had won a game to advance to the league championship, how upset would you have been? Isn’t it a little like the way Bulls fans regarded Dennis Rodman before he became a Bulls player?

* Speaking of Rodman, the former NBA star checked himself in to rehab (for alcohol) after his visit to North Korea. Because such trips can be so intoxicating? But seriously, good luck to him and to anyone seeking to gain a grip on life.

* Chicago Bears cornerback Tim Jennings and offensive linemen Kyle Long have been added to the Pro Bowl. Which is a big deal presumably. Well, if you have a Pro Bowl incentive clause in your contract. Or want a trip to Hawaii in January.
