SI Has MJ Covered; Bulls Fans Await Rose Return

February 14, 2013 @ No Comments

Derrick Rose rehabs. And talks. Chicago Bulls fans wait. And listen. Michael Jordan sells. And so it is that we enter the NBA all-star break that culminates with the annual exhibition game that occasionally resembles a basketball contest. Also of note is MJ’s 50th birthday that coincides with Sunday’s game.

Sports Illustrated has Michael Jordan covered once again.

To mark the milestone, Sports Illustrated once again is featuring Jordan on the cover. He’s no Kate Upton, but his 50th birthday celebratory cover will be his 50th on the SI cover. And that’s how you sell magazines.

Don’t expect Rose to come close to that number any time soon. Something says most Bulls fans would settle for Rose coming close to playing again after having anterior cruciate ligament surgery on his left knee in the offseason.

Speculation recently has been Rose would return after the all-star break, possibly for the Feb. 26 home game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

After the Bulls lost in Boston to the Celtics on Wednesday, Rose told reporters regarding his return: “I really don’t know. I’m feeling good, but like I said, if it’s where it’s taking me a long time and I’m still not feeling right, I don’t mind missing this year.”

Then again, he apparently doesn’t mind playing this season.

“I would love to,” Rose said. “I would love to. That’s why I approached my rehab and my workout so hard. I’m trying to get back on the court as quickly as possible, but if I have anything lingering on, it’s no point.”

He also needs to have his complete game back. What’s lacking?

“Being able to dunk,” Rose said. “I can’t dunk, man. I know if I can dunk off stride, I know I’ll be out there playing, but I can’t.”

So it appears safe to say an immediate return for Rose to action is no slam dunk.
